As I’ve said before, toppings are a fun way to add just a dab of indulgence to an otherwise nutritious bowl of oatmeal. Dessert-like toppings are the perfect solution when you want to treat yourself but also don’t want to have a stomachache the rest of the day.
This is an ultra-fudgy PB2 with bits of white chocolate chips mixed in throughout. It goes well with a number of oatmeal recipes (virtually any of them) and can be personalized with any of your favorite “chips,” whether it’s white chocolate like I used or something crazy like mint or peanut butter. You can find chocolate chips in so many flavors now!
I made a turmeric recipe. I’ve resisted because I don’t want to be cliche and do what everyone else is doing (which is posting a million turmeric recipes), but at the end of the day, I do like turmeric. So here we are.
This PB2 has a tiny amount of coconut oil in it. This has multiple benefits, the main two being a richer texture and a smooth, coconut flavor. That rich texture and flavor work well with the earthy turmeric, if I do say so myself. You could use coconut butter, technically, but I rarely have that on hand (but I always have coconut oil as it is my preferred cooking oil). (more…)

Looking for an ultra easy way to Christmas-ify your favorite oatmeal recipe? This topping needs half of a standard candy cane and can be whipped up in about two minutes!
The toughest part is just deciding what oatmeal to put it on top of. Not all flavors mesh with mint, after all! I put mine on top of glorious Thin Mints Oatmeal, but I could also see it atop Brownie Baked Oatmeal, Sweet Potato Fudge Oatmeal, or Mint Brownie Baked Oatmeal. (more…)

First, let’s discuss this Gingerbread PB2. You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to post this. But Gingerbread is so distinctly “Christmas” that I forced myself to wait until December to share it. IT’S DECEMBER so here we go.
While my Gingerbread Oatmeal is aggressively spiced, I went for a more mild flavor in this one. That makes this PB2 more versatile so it can be used on a variety of porridge flavors. I put mine atop a simple banana and cinnamon oatmeal. (more…)
I had other plans for this week’s recipes, but when I walked into my produce market and spotted the newly stocked persimmon, I scrapped all those ideas immediately.
Persimmon! It’s been so long! Why must you hide for 80 percent of the year?
I think I have a tendency to overthink “special” ingredients like persimmon (or dragon fruit, or figs). For this porridge, I tried to break down those tendencies and focus on simple, easy, obvious flavors. What’s more “obvious” in oatmeal than cinnamon and raisins? (more…)
You know what’s extra great about this recipe? It’s a really simple oatmeal topped with a really simple PB2. The oatmeal is oats + mango, and the topping is PB2 + Sriracha. Maravilloso, right?!
Spicy mango is kind of an obsession of mine. I guess that’s why I have a Spicy Mango Oatmeal and a Mango Cayenne Smoothie. And I make mango cayenne kombucha. And I eat Chile-Spiced Dried Mango from Trader Joe’s on the reg. So when I thought of this Sriracha PB2, it was not even a question which fruit I would use in my oatmeal.

Truthfully, the base of this oatmeal is good enough on its own, and it can be made with just a handful of ingredients. However, given my fundamental need to have nut butter in my stomach on a daily basis, I added the chocolate nut butter. I have no regrets. Obviously, Dark Chocolate Dreams or Nutella or my Faux-reo Cookie PB2 would work great, but I had almond butter on hand, so that’s what I used.
You can make any (nonflavored) nut butter chocolatey by following the instructions from my Mango & Chocolate PB Oatmeal.
I never expected cherries and bananas to complement each other so well, but they really do. The sweetness from the bananas brings out the flavor of the cherries, and that cherry infusion adds enough wow-factor that no cinnamon is necessary–and I rarely make a banana oatmeal with just fruit and vanilla extract! I love, love my German Chocolate Cake Baked Oatmeal and its sister pancake recipe, but I never, ever make them. Making that coconut-pecan butter, no matter how mind-boggling delicious it is, is a pain and a half.
You can’t make just a single-serving because no food processor can grind that few nuts down to a paste. You need quite a bit of pecans to fill the food processor, or it will just turn into dust and sit at the bottom of the machine while the blades whir uselessly above it. Every time I want to make it, I think about having to buy (and immediately go through) an entire bag of pecans (💰💰💰) and a bunch of coconut, and the whole idea turns me off.
That’s why I’m extra excited about this recipe. These little energy bites capture the flavors of my german chocolate recipes with a quarter of the hassle and an eighth of the pecans, although you still have to get out the food processor. 😋

A few months ago for my birthday, my BFF Kate gave me a box of chocolates from the vegan company Lagusta’s Luscious. One of the flavors was rosemary sea salt caramel, and considering my love of all things rosemary, this was absolutely my favorite of the bunch.
I was reminded of this exotic flavor combo when I saw the recipe for these vegan rosemary sea salt brownies. This needs to be an oatmeal recipe. (more…)
