French Toast Oatmeal

In case you’re too cool for refrigerator oatmeal…

…here’s the classic French Toast Oatmeal in stove-top form. I made this one for my roommate this weekend, and it literally took me about four minutes to throw together from start to finish. It’s perfect for converting those who have not yet seen the light. 🙂

French Toast Oatmeal

Prep Time: 2 minutes

Cook Time: 5 minutes

Yield: serves 1

What you'll need:

  • 1 cup milk of choice, or water
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats (I use Country Choice Organic)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • rounded 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • pinch of salt
  • maple syrup

How to make it:

  1. Bring milk (I use an equal mixture of almond milk and water) to a boil, add oats, and reduce heat to medium. (If you'd like to add flax or chia seeds, do so now.)
  2. Once more of the liquid has absorbed, add vanilla extract, salt, and cinnamon. Stir. Add a little maple syrup (perhaps a teaspoon?) and stir.
  3. If you'd like to add any extra ingredients (coconut oil, dried fruit, nuts, sunflower seeds), do so now.
  4. When you're pleased with the consistency of the oatmeal, transfer to a bowl. Serve with another splash of your milk of choice, a dusting of cinnamon, a drizzle of maple syrup, and any other additional toppings (shredded coconut, sliced fruit, raisins, nuts, etc.).

Just made this! This recipe is so simple, but awesome, thank you 🙂 I served it on a top of a caramelized banana, so it was kind of a french toast banana split. So good!

  2. Just made this and topped with sliced banana and a little sweetened almond milk. It was awesome, but every recipe I try from you is 🙂

Yum I just found your blog the other day via Katie’s MIMM link-up and I’m SO very glad I did!! I’m a huge oatmeal fan but alas, not very creative with my flavors 🙁 Now I’ve got the mecca of all oatmeal recipes at my finger tips! I made this one this morning (added some pecans) and wowzers! I’m in love 🙂 Thanks girl!

I use 1/2 c egg whites + 1/2 c water or milk for my French toast oats. Sounds weird, I know but the protein from the egg whites keeps the mid-morning hangries away.

Add one egg to it. Seriously. So delicious.

Another recipe that I’ve been contemplating for awhile is a French Toast oatmeal with an actual piece of bread – or maybe more of a bread pudding oatmeal. I found one recipe for bread pudding oatmeal on another blog, but haven’t tried it yet. Have you ever thought of doing one?
